Bernard Magenhann has been the Director-General of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission since 1 July 2025. Magenhann’s leadership is characterised by his commitment to transparency, active communication, and efficiency in decision-making. He has a strong background in the private sector, having worked for 15 years in Mazars and PwC, and joined the European Commission in 2002 in the Internal Audit Service. His role at the JRC involves managing over 50 large-scale research infrastructures across 6 sites and 5 Member States of the EU, with nearly 3000 staff members, as well as managing the JRC Board of Governors, which assists and advises the Director-General and the European Commission on various matters.
