Director, Research Policy and Strategy, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft

Mathias Rauch is Director of Research Strategy and Policy since 2020. Prior to this position, Mr Rauch was Head of the Department European Research Area of Fraunhofer, Europe’s largest organisation for applied research. He has been with Fraunhofer for 12 years in several senior management positions. From 2012 to 2014 he worked as a Seconded National Expert with the European Commission’s Directorate General for Research and Innovation. In 2005 he held a Jean Monnet Visiting Professorship for European Integration in Canada. Mathias Rauch is a member of the UN Economic Commission for Europe’s Expert Group on Innovation and Competitiveness Policies. He has authored and co-authored several research reports on R&D and innovation policy evaluation, framework conditions and incentive schemes for innovation and entrepreneurship, and international linkages of research driven clusters. He studied Economics, Political Science and Law in Leipzig, and holds a MA degree in International Studies from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
