Dr. Patrick Bressler studied physics and received his doctorate in the field of semiconductor and surface physics. From 1994 to 2009, he worked as a senior scientist at the Berlin synchrotron BESSY. From 2010 to 2014, he was head of the Fraunhofer office in Brussels, Belgium. During this time, his responsibilities included leading joint projects in applied research, networking and advising EU stakeholders on science and innovation policy, in particular on technology validation and key enabling technologies. From 2012-2015, he was also Chairman of the Expert Committee on Materials Science and Engineering (MatSEEC) of the European Science Foundation (ESF). Dr. Bressler then worked as Executive Vice President of Fraunhofer USA (2014-2018) and Adjunct Professor of Materials Science at Michigan State University in East Lansing. As Executive Vice President, he was responsible for the operational business of the seven Fraunhofer research centers in the USA. From 2018, he held the position of branch manager of the Fraunhofer Group for Microelectronics. Since 2021, he has been Director of International Cooperation at the joint office of the Fraunhofer Group for Microelectronics and the Research Factory Microelectronics Germany.
